Boy: [Yawn sound] Whoa!!! What’s going on? Who are you?
Captain Power Clean: I’m Captain Power Clean. It’s time to bring a little excitement to your brushing routine. Follow me!
Captain Clean: To get started, click on one of the topics. One: Why Teeth & Gums Are Super Important. Two: How Plaque Harms Teeth & Gums. Three: Keeping Teeth & Gums Healthy Every Day.
Captain Power Clean: Welcome to Chapter One, Why Teeth & Gums Are Super Important.
So, kiddo, let’s start with the basics. Why do you think you have teeth?
Boy: Hmmm, I guess it would be hard to eat a crunchy apple or any healthy foods without teeth.
Captain Power Clean: Ha, ha, you’re absolutely right. Your teeth allow you to eat healthy meals every day.
Boy: Wow, with the way I eat, my teeth are doing a lot of work. Are the teeth I have now the same ones I will have when I’m older?
Captain Power Clean: Well, right now your baby teeth may be starting to loosen and fall out. Your permanent teeth will come in. You’re right that your teeth do a lot of work, and it’s important to take care of both baby and permanent teeth.
Boy: My permanent teeth must be pretty strong if they’re going to last.
Captain Power Clean: They sure are, kiddo. Your teeth have and outer layers and inner layers. There’s also a root that lives in your gums.
Boy: What are gums?
Captain Power Clean: Oh, gums are the soft pink skin around your teeth.
Boy: I guess it’s important that I take care of my teeth and gums.
Captain Power Clean: It sure is.
Captain Power Clean: Welcome to Chapter Two, How Plaque Harms Teeth & Gums.
Captain Power Clean: Your teeth and gums are amazing, and it’s up to you to protect them.
Boy: Protect them from what?
Captain Power Clean: Plaque germs.
ADD SUPER ON SCREEN: plaque germs
They really like sugary treats so eating healthy is one way to protect your teeth and gums.
Boy: Yuck, Plaque germs are gross. But to be honest, they don’t seem that bad.
Captain Power Clean: Oh, no, kiddo, plaque is harmful! When left on the tooth, it can cause holes in the tooth called cavities.
ADD SUPER ON SCREEN: cavities
Cavities are serious and must be repaired by a dental professional.
Boy: Yikes, it sounds like plaque can really hurt my teeth.
Captain Power Clean: Not just your teeth- but your gums too. Bacteria in plaque can make gums red and swollen and cause them to bleed.
ADD SUPER ON SCREEN: bacteria
Boy: That sounds awful. Other than eating healthy, what else can I do to take care of my teeth and gums?
Captain Power Clean: Well, that’s where I come in. With me, and a couple of my friends by your side everyday, you can take care of your teeth and gums every day at least twice a day- Not to mention have a bit of fun along the way.
Captain Power Clean: Welcome to Chapter Three, Keeping Teeth & Gums Healthy Every Day
As we discussed earlier, your teeth and gums need to be kept clean. With the help of the Amazing Clean Team, you can defend your mouth.
Each member of the Clean Team has a special talent. As the leader of the Clean Team, let’s start with my job.
Toothbrushes lift and remove plaque from teeth and gums. Brushing two times a day, for two minutes each time you brush, gives you maximum brushing power.
Captain Power Clean: And for a little extra fun, ask your dental professional about a power brush like me. I’ve been known to make brushing a little easier.
Boy: Wait second. Did you say I have to brush for a whole two minutes? That’s a long time.
Captain Power Clean: Well, actually that time flies if you have the next member of the clean team, the Disney® Magic Timer™ App Ask your mom or dad to download this app onto your tablet or phone. It’s made to help you brush properly in all the right places for 2 minutes; plus it’s a ton of fun.
Boy: Wow, that’s pretty cool.
Captain Power Clean: It certainly is. Let me introduce you to the rest of the Clean Team.
There’s Fluoride Toothpaste, and with just a pea-sized amount on any toothbrush, you can polish all of your teeth and strengthen your enamel, the hard outer layer of your teeth.
There’s floss: small but really powerful. It helps remove plaque from places that you may have trouble reaching.
And to round out the team, fluoride rinse is also an option. Swishing a rinse daily just like the instructions tell you can help you reach the areas you may miss with a brush.
Boy: Cool, I didn’t realize I have so many options that can help me keep my teeth and gums healthy. And thanks for showing me how amazing the experience can be.
Captain Power Clean: Sure thing, kiddo. Oh, I almost forgot, there’s one more important step you can take to keep your mouth the healthiest. Be sure to visit your dental office every six months. You’ll get a super cleaning while you’re there, plus find out if there are any issues you need to work on to ensure a healthy smile for life.
Boy: This has been super helpful. Thanks again Captain Power Clean.
Captain Power Clean: No problem. For more information about the Amazing World of Oral Care, have your parents speak to your dental professional or visit www.oralb.com/stages.
Male Voice: “This is a story about Geena, who lived in a very nice house in a very nice town with her father, who was a giraffe, and her mother, who was a giraffe. But that was okay, because Geena was a giraffe, too. Geena was very happy because she had just gotten her first big tooth. But one night, Geena’s mother found her crying.”
Geena’s mother: “Geena, what’s wrong?”
Geena: “I’m afraid.”
Geena’s mother: “Oh. Of what, honey?”
Geena: “I’m afraid my big tooth is gonna fall out just like my baby teeth.”
Geena’s mother: “Oh gee. That’s a scary thought. But you know, Geena, if you take care of your permanent teeth, you’ll have them for a long time.”
Geena: “I will?”
Geena’s mother: “Uh huh!”
Geena: “I’m gonna brush right now!”
Geena’s mother: (Laughs) “Great!”
(Geena goes to the bathroom and squirts toothpaste on a toothbrush, Blue “sparkles” appear and then turn into characters/musicians.)
Sparkles singing: “Your new teeth are coming. So make them feel at home. Your new teeth are here to stay, not to go and roam. So brush right and eat smart every day. And you’ll have a sparkly smile that will never go away.”
New teeth! Coming to stay!
New teeth! Never go away!
New teeth! Coming to stay!
Your new teeth are coming, and they’re coming to stay!
Geena: “Wow! You Sparkles are great!”
Sparkles 1: “Thanks, Geena.”
Sparkles 2: “Yeah, we think it’s great how you’re taking care of your teeth.”
Geena: “Well, see you in the morning.”
Sparkles (In unison): “Whatever! Right!”
Music while Geena sleeps. Geena dreams she is in a meadow and is run over by multiple animals running away. A green (lizard) stops to talk to her.
Lizard: “Oh..He’s coming. King Cavity is coming. Oh, oh.”
King Cavity splits trees and sees Geena.
Geena: “Oh no! He sees me! Bleh! I don’t want my teeth to be like his!”
King Cavity (Sings while chasing Geena): “I big bad King Cavity; I’m as mean as could be. Every one of my teeth has a cavity. They’re rotten, ugly, yellow, and green. That’s exactly how I want your teeth to be seen. Yellow green.”
(Geena lands in Big Cavity’s mouth but then is "spit out". She lands on a hippopotamus’ belly. The hippo is resting in the river.
Geena: (To hippo). “What are you doing?”
Hippo: “Well I’m brushin’ my teeth.”
Geena: “Aren’t you afraid of King Cavity?”
Hippo(Laughs): “Ha ha ha. Not a bit. I’m brushing my teeth like I do every day. Always in the proper way. See I’ve chosen fluoride toothpaste and a well-designed toothbrush. I brush the fronts of my teeth, the inside, and all across the tops. That way I avoid any chance meetings with ol’ King Cavity, and you can do the same thing, too. Here (hands Geena a toothbrush and toothpaste).”
Geena: “Thanks.”
Hippo: “And don’t forget to ask your mom and dad to help you floss!”
Geena: (Walking back through the meadow.) “Gee, I’m getting tired and hungry. I think I’ll have a snack.”
Geena looks around and sees a sign saying “Candy” with an arrow pointing toward the “Junk Snax” building, with lots of sweets all around. She starts to choose a sweet. Upon going to pay at the chocolate booth, the scary voice inside says, “Can I help you?” and then out pops King Cavity.
He chases Geena, who runs to the gated fresh veggies and slams the gate behind her, just in time to keep King Cavity out.
Female Rhino: “Hungry?”
Geena: “Ooh, yeah.”
Rhino: “Here. You won’t find these in any candy store.” (Hands Geena a carrot).
Geena: “Thanks.”
Rhino: “Well, you’re never going to take care of your teeth eating candy. You need to eat balanced meals and limit snacks. And if you need a snack, have some of my fresh fruits and vegetables. That way you’ll always have a beautiful smile. Like mine.”
Geena: “Thanks”
Geena leaves the fresh vegetable garden.
Geena: “You know, I’m getting pretty tired of running from this King Cavity dude. (Walks over King Cavity without realizing it.) In fact, I think I’ve just about had (King Cavity groans and Geena realizes she just walked over him)….Enough.”
Geena squirts toothpaste at King Cavity. The Sparkles appear. Sparkles(singing): “Now you know how to take care of your teeth. You’ve got to brush them right and watch what you eat. Use fluoride toothpaste and plenty of floss. Eat healthy foods and your teeth won’t get lost, but there’s one more thing you’ve gotta do. You’ve gotta get a check-up.
Ooh, hoo, get a check-up, ooh, hoo, get a check-up.
Ooh, hoo, get a check-up, ooh, hoo, get a check-up,”
Geena: “Wow! You guys came just in time.”
Male Narrator: “And now it’s time for everyone to go to the dentist.”
Geena: “You, too, Mr. All Holes and Yucky Teeth.”
They walk to dentist’s office. Big Cavity is nervous while waiting in the waiting room.
Stork Dental Receptionist: “Next please.”
Big Cavity smiles with a fake set of teeth. Stork removes them to reveal his yellow green teeth.
Stork: “Come on. Don’t be a big baby. It’s never too late to take care of your teeth.”
Female Leopard Hygienist: “Geena Giraffe?” (Walks Geena to dental exam room.) Geena, this is Doc Croc.
Geena: “Hi.”
Doc Croc: “Geena. Ever wonder how someone gets a cavity? (Turns on TV.) An invisible blanket of plaque is always forming, covering the teeth. If you don’t brush and floss your teeth every day, it combine with sugar from your food and can cause cavities. That’s another reason it’s important to have regular check-ups.”
Leopard Hygienist: “First, we’ll clean your teeth with this special brush.”
Geena(giggles): “It tickles.”
Leopard Hygienist: “Now we’ll put fluoride on them to make them strong.”
Doc Croc: “And just to make sure there are no problems, we’ll take some pictures with an x-ray.”
(After completing x-rays and exam.)
Doc Croc: “Everything looks great. I wonder how your friend, King Cavity, made out?”
King Cavity walks down hall. He smiles. All clap. King Cavity hugs Geena.
Geena awakens from sleep.
Geena: “Now that’s what I call a dream!”
Geena goes into bathroom. Sparkles are there.
Sparkles (Singing):
Your new teeth are coming
So make them feel at home
Your new teeth are here to stay
Not to go and roam.
So brush right and eat smart every day.
And you’ll have a sparkly smile that will never go away!
New teeth, coming to stay!
New teeth, never go away!
New teeth, coming to stay!
Your new teeth are coming,
And they’re coming to stay!
Proper brushing helps minimize the risk of tooth decay and gum disease, the major causes of tooth loss. Use a soft-bristle brush and a fluoride toothpaste to remove plaque and food particles.
On outer and inner surfaces, brush at a 45-degree angle in short, half-tooth-wide strokes against the gumline.
On chewing surfaces, hold the brush flat and brush back and forth.
On inside surfaces of front teeth, tilt brush vertically and use gentle up and down strokes with toe of brush.
Brush the tongue in a back-to-front sweeping motion to remove food particles and freshen your mouth.
Replace your brush every 3 months.
Are you using the right technique when taking care of your teeth? Here are a few dental hygiene pointers to keep in mind when going through your daily brushing routine:
Your toothpaste's taste can make brushing a more enjoyable experience, leading to more thorough brushing, better dental hygiene and reduced risk for gum disease. It also is important to choose toothpaste that meets your dental-health needs. Crest Cavity Protection with clinically proven Flouristat® prevents cavities and is gentle on enamel.
There are so many to choose from! Children need to use a child-size toothbrush specific to the size and shape of their mouths and hands. Soft bristles with rounded ends provide gentle cleaning of teeth and delicate gum tissue. Oral-B Kids® offers a line of toothbrushes specially designed to meet kids' oral-health needs at every stage of development.
Most dentists recommend replacing your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if bristles become worn.
The final task in your daily oral care routine should be flossing, which can help protect your teeth and promote healthier gums. That’s because flossing removes plaque, as well as debris that can adhere to teeth and gums and in between teeth.
Your gums may bleed for the first week until the plaque layer is broken up, bacteria are removed, and your gums heal.
By flossing your teeth daily, you increase the chances of keeping your teeth for a lifetime. Ask your dental professional about dental floss products that best fit your needs.
So why do you need to floss? Flossing removes plaque and food particles from between teeth to reduce tooth decay.
Plaque is a clear, sticky film formed by bacteria in your mouth. If it is not cleaned away, it can lead to tooth decay or irritate your gums, potentially leading to gingivitis, an early form of gum disease. Brushing helps remove plaque from the outer surfaces of teeth, but using floss is critical to remove plaque from between your teeth where toothbrushes can't reach.
People have reported many alternative uses for dental floss, including stringing beads, cutting cheesecake, tying a stuffed turkey before cooking and as an indispensable part of a camping emergency kit.
Many dentists say that you don't have to floss all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep! Remember, it takes only a few minutes to floss and help fight plaque.
