2014 Cochrane Report: Power versus Manual
In a recent historical review of clinical studies, the independent, not-for-profit Cochrane Collaboration concluded that oscillating-rotating – the technology used in Oral-B power toothbrushes – was the only type of power brush that consistently reduced plaque and gingivitis more effectively than a manual toothbrush in both the short- and long-term.

2011 Cochrane Review: Power versus Power
Conclusion: Brushes with a rotation oscillation action reduced plaque and gingivitis more than those with a side to side action in the short term (4 to 12 weeks).
Out of 398 studies comparing power technologies to each other, 17 trials including 1369 subjects met selection criteria and were ultimately evaluated. 7 studies compared rotation oscillation and side-to-side (sonic) technologies. The studies have shown sufficient and conclusive data to support the statement above.
This outcome is further evidence that when independent, highly regarded third parties evaluate performance, Oral-B Electric Toothbrushes are consistently top ranked.
