Healthy peri-implant mucosa is comprised by a core of connective tissue covered by either keratinized or non-keratinized mucosal epithelium. A healthy implant should demonstrate an endosseous implant surface is in contact with mineralized bone, while the remainder is associated with bone marrow, intraosseous vascular structures, and/or fibrous tissues.
