Dr. John N. Williams, dean emeritus of Indiana University School of Dentistry, served as dean 2010-2019. In 2019-20, he served as the interim President of Transylvania University, Lexington, KY. Prior to 2010, he served as dean at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry (2005–2010) and the University of Louisville School of Dentistry (1999-2005). Before his deanships he served as Associate Dean for Educational Programs at Louisville for over seven years. He also served concurrently in the Office of the Provost, University of Louisville (1988-1991) as an Assistant University Provost where he had implementation responsibility of the campus-wide academic computing plan. He has also completed a three-year term as Vice President of the American Dental Education Association Council of Deans (2009-2012) focusing on national educational policy. He served as a Commissioner for the Commission of Dental Accreditation (2010-2014), which has oversight for all dental education and allied dental education program accreditation in the United States. In conjunction with this appointment, he served a one-year term as Chair of the Commission (2013-2014). He maintains scholarly interests in dental workforce, dental curriculum assessment and instructional technologies.
Dr. Williams is a consultant for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (Site visitor Chair 2020-21).
