Gingival Color/Texture

Gingival inflammation, as seen in periodontal diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, can cause alterations in color, texture, and contour of the gingiva.31 Healthy gingiva is generally considered to be coral pink in color and in many cases has a stippled (or “tufted”) appearance. Gingival edema, erythema, and/or rolled gingival margins are considered unesthetic and can impact the overall perception of attractiveness and health.32
